Mechanistic model of Sr²⁺-induced cellulase overexpression in T. reesei. Addition of 70 mM Sr²⁺ led to a significant increase in cytosolic Ca²⁺ levels, which in turn promoted overexpression of cellulase-related genes via Ca²⁺ signaling. The effect of adding NAC suggests that the cytosolic ROS burst induced by Sr²⁺ negatively affects cellulase secretion.
