Biorefinery and Biomanufacturing

Lead Guest Editor: Yu Ji

Lead Guest Editor: Chenyi Li

The development of biorefinery and biomanufacturing technologies is critical to address the growing demand for sustainable and renewable sources of energy, chemicals, and materials. Biorefinery and biomanufacturing systems aim to convert renewable biomass resources into a range of valuable products, including biofuels, biochemicals, biopolymers, and biomaterials. These systems often incorporate multiple processing steps, including biomass pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation, and downstream processing, to maximize the efficiency of product generation while minimizing waste and energy use.

The International Conference on Biorefinery and Biomanufacturing (ICBB) was held in Athens, Greece between 23-26 th of July 2023, bringing together researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to discuss recent advances and challenges in this field. To continue this important conversation, Bioresources and Bioprocessing (BIOB) is now accepting submissions for a thematic issue on "Biorefinery and Biomanufacturing". This issue aims to highlight recent research and development efforts related to biorefinery and biomanufacturing technologies, including but not limited to:

  • Development of new enzymes and microbial strains for efficient conversion of biomass to biofuels and chemicals
  • Integration of biorefinery and biomanufacturing technologies for the production of value-added products
  • Life cycle assessment and techno-economic analysis of biorefinery and biomanufacturing systems
  • Upstream and downstream processing for the recovery and purification of biorefinery and biomanufacturing products

We welcome submissions of original research articles, short reports, and reviews on these and other topics related to biorefinery and biomanufacturing. All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review to ensure scientific quality and relevance to the scope of this thematic issue.

BIOB is an SCI-indexed, open-access journal published by the Springer-Nature group. The Impact Factor of BIOB (2021) is 4.983, ranking No. 47/159 in the JCR category of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology. This thematic issue will provide an excellent platform for researchers and industry professionals to share their latest findings and insights on biorefinery and biomanufacturing, as well as to promote the development and deployment of sustainable and renewable energy and material systems.

The date open for submission to the Thematic Issue of Biorefinery and Biomanufacturing: From Now On;

Until the deadline: April 30, 2024.
